Classification and Evolution of Fuel Injectors

With the continuous advancement of automotive technology, fuel injectors have evolved from carburetors to single-point injection, multi-point injection, and now to the widely used gas-injected direct injection (GDI) technology. These different types of fuel injectors each have their own characteristics, but they all share the common goal of achieving higher fuel efficiency, lower emissions, and better power response.

 

Carburetor Era: This was the most primitive fuel supply method, mixing fuel and air through negative pressure in the venturi before sending it to the cylinder. However, due to uneven mixing, fuel efficiency was low, and emissions were severe.

 

Single-Point and Multi-Point Injection: With the development of electronic control technology, single-point and multi-point injection technologies emerged. Through precise control of the injection quantity by the electronic control unit (ECU), fuel efficiency and engine performance were significantly improved.

 

Gas-Injected Direct Injection (GDI): As one of the most advanced fuel injection technologies currently available, GDI technology mounts the injector directly inside the cylinder, achieving precise fuel control and high-pressure injection, further improving engine power and fuel economy, and reducing emissions.
